Applications

LDPE, EVA, POE, POM, PC and Polyolefins

KraussMaffei Extrusion systems enable reliable pelletizing of melt and powder streams in virgin polymer processing. Single-screw configurations process LDPE, EVA and POE in melt-to-pellet applications, while twin-screw systems handle powder-to-pellet applications such as polyolefins, POM and PC. High free volume and torque density support stable operation and high throughputs.

PMMA, PC and PS

KraussMaffei Extrusion systems for twin screw melt-to-pellet applications support the processing of PMMA, PC, and PS compounds for optical, automotive, electronics, packaging, construction, and household applications. Our solutions provide high free volume (OD/ID 1.65) for high throughputs, efficient degassing for low VOC levels, and gentle shear conditions for sensitive polymers, ensuring consistent product quality.

Our Process

Upstream Processing

Incoming raw materials are tested in our laboratory prior to processing, including bulk density and other key material properties.
KraussMaffei Extrusion offers high-precision gravimetric dosing to ensure consistent formulation accuracy.
Materials are fed into the first co-rotating twin-screw extruder and plastified under controlled conditions.
Solvents or monomers can be injected to replicate reactor outlet conditions, followed by transfer into a degassing single-screw stage.

Extrusion

In polymer melt processing, KraussMaffei Extrusion provides solutions for degassing, additive incorporation, and melt conditioning prior to pelletizing. Our degassing single-screw and co-rotating twin-screw extruders enable efficient removal of residual solvents and monomers, including optional stripping processes for decontamination. This ensures stable homogenization and controlled temperature conditioning for consistent downstream pellet quality.

Forming and Downstream Processing

Underwater pelletizing enables the production of uniform pellets directly from the melt.
Strand pelletizing produces pellets by cutting cooled polymer strands into defined lengths.
