Applications

Polyolefins

Polyolefins form a central material group within the plastics industry, enabling a wide range of tailored applications. Through advanced compounding techniques, KraussMaffei Extrusion provides solutions to precisely adapt material properties to your requirements. This includes the incorporation of functional additives, mineral fillers, fiber reinforcement, and the blending of polymers to achieve defined performance characteristics.

Engineering Plastics

KraussMaffei Extrusion’s twin-screw extruders are designed for compounding high-performance polymers, including PA, PC/ABS, PEEK and PPS. Our solutions support diverse material formulations and functional fillers and additives, including high-temperature polymers, optical-grade materials and sensitive fillers with specific processing requirements for demanding industrial applications.

Masterbatch & Highly filled

Masterbatches and highly filled compounds enable precise adjustment of material properties in plastics processing. These concentrated systems contain uniformly dispersed pigments, fillers and additives. KraussMaffei Extrusion provides standardized and customized solutions for pre-mix, split feeding, reactive systems and special-effect formulations, supporting efficient processing and flexible recipe adaptation.

Reactive Extrusion

Twin-screw extruders can be used not only for compounding but also as continuous reactors in reactive extrusion processes. KraussMaffei Extrusion solutions provide control of residence time, temperature zones, and multi-point gravimetric dosing of solids and liquids. These features support stable processing from TPU synthesis to post-reactor PA condensation and help reduce fouling while supporting controlled residence time distribution.

PVC Pelletizing

PVC dry blends are typically supplied as powders, while pelletized material is often required for stable processing on single-screw extruders and injection molding systems. KraussMaffei Extrusion provides tailored solutions for rigid, chlorinated and flexible PVC grades. By combining counter-rotating twin-screw technology with integrated pelletizing units, we deliver a reliable end-to-end processing solution for your requirements.

TPE Production

From TPE-S and TPE-O blending to TPE-V dynamic vulcanization, KraussMaffei Extrusion’s twin-screw extruders provide processing solutions for thermoplastic elastomers. Building on rubber processing expertise, we integrate rubber extruders and gear pumps into tailored system configurations. Oils, fillers and additives can be incorporated according to specific formulation and process requirements.

Our Process

Upstream Processing

Before processing, raw materials are carefully evaluated in our laboratory, including moisture content, bulk density, and other relevant material properties.
Material handling is individually adapted to match each customer’s specific production setup, ensuring smooth integration into existing process chains and stable downstream processing.
High-precision gravimetric dosing systems ensure consistent and reliable formulation accuracy, supporting stable product quality and repeatable processing results across production batches.

Extrusion

The materials are fed into the intake zone in a controlled manner. After melting, fillers and sensitive additives are incorporated through side feeding. Vacuum degassing removes moisture and volatiles, ensuring consistent product quality. Final result is a homogenous melt.

Forming and Downstream Processing

KraussMaffei Extrusion provides process solutions for pelletizing using underwater, strand, or hot-air pelletizing techniques.
Following pellet formation, drying and conditioning are achieved through vibration conveyors to ensure uniform moisture reduction and stable handling.

KraussMaffei Extrusion manages the entire logistics process – from worldwide shipping to onward transportation for downstream processing steps. Whether by land, air or sea, or via on-site collection, we reliably coordinate the transportation of machinery, plastics and rental equipment according to your requirements and ensure their integration into customized process engineering systems.
